Role Description
Cranmore is a human-led, AI-enabled transformation consultancy. We build agentic platforms, digital twins and enterprise solutions on Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365, alongside our own AI products, for public sector clients across the UK and Ireland. Our work is real, it ships, and people depend on it — which is exactly why quality matters to us.
We’re looking for a Junior Software Tester to grow into a reliable, trusted member of our QA team. This is a role for someone at the start of their testing career who wants to learn properly, take ownership, and become genuinely good at the craft.
The Role
You’ll work alongside developers, business analysts and senior testers to make sure what we build does what it’s supposed to — and that when it doesn’t, the problem is found, understood and clearly documented before it reaches a client.
You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. You *will* be expected to be curious, careful, and willing to ask the questions that stop small issues becoming big ones.
Because we’re an AI-first consultancy, testing at Cranmore isn’t standing still. The successful candidate will be expected to learn test automation and to actively embrace AI to optimise our testing function. This is central to how we work — and a genuine opportunity to build skills at the frontier of the profession.
What you’ll do
– Turn user stories, acceptance criteria and requirements into clear, practical test scenarios and test cases.
– Execute tests and compare actual behaviour against expected behaviour, validating that software meets business and user needs.
– Identify, document and clearly report defects — including accurate, reproducible steps that let developers fix them fast.
– Record test results and maintain evidence, following our agreed testing processes.
– Work closely with developers, BAs and senior testers, asking for clarification when you need it.
– Learn our test management and defect-tracking tools quickly, and pick up new ones as projects require.
– Progressively learn test automation and apply AI to make our testing faster, sharper and more effective.
What we’re looking for (essential)
– A basic understanding of software testing principles and why quality assurance matters within the software development lifecycle.
– A grasp of the difference between expected and actual behaviour, and why validating software against real user and business expectations is the whole point.
– The ability to read and understand user stories, acceptance criteria and basic requirements documentation.
– Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking — you notice the things others skim past.
– Clear, precise written communication, especially when documenting defects.
– A genuine willingness to learn, take feedback well, and keep improving how you test.
– The confidence to ask questions and collaborate rather than guess.
Beneficial (but we’ll help you develop these)
– Basic knowledge of Agile methodologies, sprint delivery and the software development lifecycle.
– Familiarity with test management and defect-tracking tools.
– Any exposure to test automation concepts, scripting, or tools such as Playwright.
None of these are dealbreakers. If you have the right instincts and attitude, we’ll invest in the rest.
What we offer
– An encouraging, welcoming workplace culture in a modern, friendly and supportive environment.
– Excellent camaraderie, with subsidised events and activities.
– A fast-growing company with real opportunities for self-development — we fund exams and training, including Microsoft certifications and Anthropic Academy.
– The chance to work hands-on with frontier AI technologies.
– Meaningful work: contributing to large-scale public sector technology development and delivering high-quality projects that make a difference.
– A clear path to grow from junior tester into a confident, autonomous QA contributor, with mentoring from experienced testers and engineers.
– [Standard benefits: pension, holiday allowance, etc.]
Eligibility
– You must have the right to work in the UK.
– Some of our work is for UK government and public sector clients, so you must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC). (SC eligibility typically requires a period of UK residency — see gov.uk for details.)
