What’s the number one tip to becoming a successful Project Manager? And how can a background in musical theatre help?
In the first of our ‘Source Code’ posts, we find out as we invite you to meet our Cranmore colleagues.
Justine joined as a placement Project Manager in 2022. Having completed her Business Information Technology degree at Queen’s University in 2024, she rejoined full time in September.
“It was my mum who said a Project Manager role was the direction I should go,” Justine says. “I did musical theatre when I was younger, and that’s where I’ve gotten the confidence to speak with clients, or anyone, really.”
Justine has retained her love of musicals (she is very excited about the release of the Holywood remake of ‘Wicked’), and still “strums chords” and sings.
But, as she treads the boards at Cranmore as PM, she tells us our ASSURED Agile method was the initial music to her ears.
“And everyone was so welcoming,” she says. “That was something that really stood out.”
Managing teams through Jira and now certified in the Agile methodology, Justine handles complex projects with a team of dedicated devs.
“I keep a never-ending to-do list,” she says, before adding she likes to keep the atmosphere “playful”.
“I need to keep everyone happy,” she says. “I want to create a great atmosphere. And total transparency is key. What’s great about Cranmore is we all work together. You feel completely free to ask for help and, here, your colleagues will always offer it.”
So, what is Justine’s number one tip for success as PM?
“If you seem stressed, everyone will be stressed. You need to be cool and calm, and create that relaxed, supportive atmosphere. That’s key.”
